Hi! I’m Jen, a Registered Nurse for over 12 years, Internationally Certified Infant and Child Sleep Consultant, mother of three and the founder of Sleep.Thrive.Grow (S.T.G) Consulting.
My passion for sleep began after I had given birth to my first child back in 2012. Extremely naive, I left the hospital thinking I had done the hardest part. I thought if he was clean and not hungry, the rest would come naturally. I was in for a shock!
I expected that my son would “just sleep”.
I also had no idea about how huge the transition I was going through as a new mother. I found myself for the first time in a situation where I was completely out of my depth not knowing what to do. I was in survival mode each day and would cry every night wondering how I was going to be able to get through the next 12 hours. I was the first person to have a baby in my friend group, so my coping mechanism was to act like everything was great. I felt that I could not let them see how I really felt inside, because having a baby is supposed to be the most amazing thing, right?
This band-aid approach I put on myself left me feeling alone within my thoughts and not really understood by anyone. My mum was an amazing support, but as many mothers would say back then, “I know it’s hard, but you just have to get on with it.” I thought, how could I begin to do this when I did not even know how to “get on with it?”
